of Deir Ibiz'a Education Programs
All of the Educational
Programs exist under the umbrella of Middle East Children's Alliance.
All Educational Programs are administered by the Scholarship Committee,
which consists of 4 residents of Deir Ibiz'a and 4 members of the Friends
of Deir Ibzi'a.

Financial
Aid Program for Students in the Public Schools:
This program will
provide financial assistance to poor students to help pay for school
uniforms and school supplies needed in order to attend school.
The Scholarship
Committee will review the applications for this program and select students
according to the needs of the student and the financial situation of
the family. The committee will decide on the level of financial assistance
to be given to each student. The cost will be approximately $30 per
month for 9 months for each student or approximately $270 per year for
each student. It is believed that approximately 50 students in Deir
Ibzi'a are eligible for this program. (Total approximate program cost:
$13,500)
The offers will
be re-evaluated every year.
The Scholarship
Committee will keep signed receipts for all expenses and prepare a report
on all of the expenses paid for each student.
Requirements of
applicants for this program:
1) The income of the family does not exceed 150 Shekel per month for
each individual.
2) The parent/guardian of the child must present an application to the
committee.
3) The parent/guardian must verify in writing that everything which
is paid to the student by the committee is used solely for school expenses.
4) Any student whose parent/guardian does not cooperate with the committee
or with the school forfeits his/her scholarship.
5) In one family there will not be more than three students who receive
financial aid.
Tutorial
Program for Students in the 1st through 12th grades:
This Program will
assist students who need help in their studies. University students
who have financial needs will be hired to teach the students in the
afternoon after school. If there are no university students who are
able to teach, teachers will be recruited.
The committee will consult with the school principal to choose the students
who need help in their studies. A report will be prepared with the names
of the students participating in the program with information about
them and how they are progressing.
The cost of this
program will be approximately $10 for each child monthly. There are
approximately 100 children who need this program. (Total approximate
program cost: $1000 for a nine month period.)
The subjects which
will be offered in the tutorial program are:
a) Arabic: from first to sixth grade
b) English: from first to twelfth grade
c) Mathematics: from first to ninth grade
Requirements of
applicants for this program:
1) A signed application by the student's parent/guardian and the school
principal of the student must be presented to the committee.
2) Students with excessive absences and/or disruptive behavior will
be dropped from the program.
Scholarships
for 7th through 12th Grade Students:
This program will
assist special intelligent students who need financial assistance by
providing them with scholarships to attend a private school in Ramallah
for their education. It will cost about $1,500 yearly for each student.

This Scholarship
Program will benefit students from poor families of Deir Ibzi'a who
need financial assistance in order to attend private school. Each student
will complete an application form for the Scholarship. The Scholarship
Committee will review the applications from the students and conduct
an interview with the students, their parents, and their teachers.
The committee will
select two students from each grade, from 7th grade through 12th grade,
one from the boys' school and one from the girls' school. The committee
examines the applications carefully and selects the students who best
meet program requirements. The students selected will be the student
with the highest qualifications from each grade. In the event of insufficient
funding for two scholarships per year, priority will always be given
to female students.
The money for the
scholarship will be under the control of Deeb Kamal. All expenses will
be approved by the Scholarship Committee. Mr. Kamal will pay the expenses
directly for each child. The school fees are paid directly to the school
and the rest of the money is paid for transportation, books, school
supplies and school uniform against receipts from the parents.
Receipts will be
kept for all expenses and a report will be prepared for each child.
Requirements of
applicants for this program:
1) The student's grades in the Deir Ibzi"a school must register
in the top10th percentile of their class.
2) If the student is enrolled in a school outside Deir Ibzi'a, his/her
grades must register in the top 15th percentile of the class, and furthermore
he/she must have been enrolled in this school for more than three years.
3) The income of the family is not more than 2000 shekel per month.
4) An application must be presented to the committee with school certificates
and a certificate attesting to the good behavior of the student.
5) The guardian of the student must sign a written contract where he/she
promises to ensure the student is given adequate time to study.
6) The student will submit a personal picture and a contract to the
committee promising to perform some community service during the summer
vacation.
7) The student must be in the seventh through twelfth grade.
8) A report on the student along with his/her school certificates is
given yearly to the committee.
9) The committee has the right to revoke the scholarship from any student
if it is proved that he/she did not fulfill the requirements or if he/she
left school.
Scholarships
for University Students:
This program will
benefit students from poor families from Deir Ibzi'a who need financial
assistance to study in a university in Palestine or study outside of
Palestine.
The cost of this
program will be about $2000 yearly for each student. (Total approximate
program cost: Unknown)
The committee examines
and chooses who meets the program requirements.
The fees are paid
directly to the university.
Students wishing
to study outside of Palestine at a cost of more than $2000 must seek
additional funding. Help with this MAY be provided by the committee.
There will be an
emergency fund established to pay any additional expenses incurred by
the students in the case of emergency situations. (For example: Israeli
closure of roads might prevent a student's ability to return to his/her
village. The emergency funding could help pay for a dwelling for him/her
and the money needed for living in this emergency situation. The monetary
aid will be cancelled when the emergency situation is over.)
Requirements of applicants for this program:
1) The student must present a formal application with his graduating
certificates and personal pictures.
2) a) If the student scores between 75 and 80 points in the graduating
exams she/he will receive 50% of the scholarship.
b) If the student scores between 80 and 85 points in the graduating
exams, she/he will receive 75% of the scholarship.
c) If the student scores above 85 points in the graduating exam, she/he
will receive the full scholarship.
3) The income of the family is not more than 3000 shekel per month.
4) The student will agree to perform community service without pay during
his/her holiday. This is not meant to prevent the student from any opportunity
they may have to work in their field of study. Exemptions from community
service must be approved by the committee.
5) The student must submit an application to the committee if he /she
needs to buy university books or other supplies. He/she will be reimbursed
against a receipt or the committee will pay directly to the source from
which the supplies came.
6) The student must submit a report about his/her study every six months,
with his/her university certificates.
7) The committee reviews the scholarships every six months and any student
who does not fulfill the requirements forfeits the scholarship.
8) The students who are currently at the university must present a certificate
from the university certifying their grades to be within the top 30th
percentile.
